Aachen, Sparrow Fountain on Cathedral Square

The Vogelbrunnen ("bird fountain") was created in 1978 by Bonifatius Stirnberg and is dedicated to the sparrows. In the local dialect, sparrows are called "Mösch", so the fountain is also called "Möschebrunnen". Bronze sparrows sit on the rods and on the sphere from which the fountain dispenses water at the press of a button. Close by is the so-called fish market which can be reached through the "Spitzgässchen" alley. Next to the main portal of the cathedral is a miniature model of the cathedral.
