Cologne, Roncalli Square

The square on the south-side of the cathedral is named Roncalli-Square after the civil surname of Pope John XXIII. The square is bordered by the Domhotel on the west side and the Roman-Germanic Museum on the east side. The museum exhibits important pieces from the early history of Cologne, which was founded as a Roman colony, "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium." The abbreviation C.C.A.A. is chiseled into an archway, which is on display in the Roman-Germanic Museum. The Museum Ludwig for modern art is located behind the Roman-Germanic Museum.
