Aachen, Main Station Hall

In preparation of the World Equestrian Games 2006 in Aachen, the main station was renovated and modernized extensively. In the process the suspended ceiling in the lobby was removed to reveal the arches of the building from 1905, thereby creating a much more spacious impression. At the same time the tunnel to the tracks was redesigned and remodeled to be more friendly and bright. The stairways to the platforms have been fitted with elevators to make them handicapped accessible. The main station of Aachen is a stop on the track Paris-Brussels-Cologne, which is served by the French high speed train Thalys. The German ICE also stops in Aachen on its way to and from Brussels.
