Aachen, Pont Street

Pont Street is one of the roads which lead away from the central market in a star formation. Parts are traffic reduced and other parts form a pedestrian zone. The section from Templergraben to the Pont gate are close to the main campus of the RWTH. Its many restaurants and pubs are therefore a center of student live in Aachen. From Templergraben to the market square, the character of Pont Street is dominated by retail shops. The international newspaper museum in house number 13, to the left of the ice cream parlor, exhibits exceptional issues of newspapers from all over the world. The collection comprises more than 160000 newspapers and printouts. Across the street from the museum, fans of the local soccer club "Alemannia Aachen" can get souvenirs and fan merchandise in the colors of the club, yellow and black. Uphill towards the market square, you can see the spires of Haus Löwenstein, which is the oldest middle-class house in Aachen.
