Düsseldorf, Church St. Peter

The catholic church St. Peter in the Friedrichstadt district of Düsseldorf was consecrated in 1898. The neo-gothic church is considered one of the most beautiful churches of Düsseldorf. In 2001, a new organ by organbuilder Karl Göckel was installed. The square in front of the church was redesigned in 2005. WestLB, which has its headquarter in Düsseldorf, sponsored the majority of the cost. St. Peter's church made sad headline news on the 20th of June 2007: During renovation work on the roof, a fire broke out which consumed much of the roof truss. Unfortunately, water from the firefighting caused significant damage to the organ.
