Düsseldorf, University, Botanic Garden

The botanic garden of Düsseldorf University is used for research and teaching, but is also open to the public. Entrance is free. In the middle of the garden which spans seven hectares is the 18m tall dome greenhouse, which can be seen from far away and has thus become the symbol of the botanic garden. The hemisphere which is constructed from triangles houses ca. 400 plant species, which are adapted to arid, hot summers and humid winters. Paved walkways separate the plants into parcels representing the origin regions. Descriptive labels inform the visitor about the plants and their natural habitat. A group of volunteers offers guided tours by prior arrangement.
