Düsseldorf, Rhine River as Red Carpet

On the eve before the Bambi award ceremony 2007 in the congress center of Düsseldorf, red light from 70 xenon floodlights, each with 7kW power, was supposed to turn the Rhine river into a red carpet on a length of 6km from the media harbor to the ceremony venue. To the disappointment of spectators and photographers, the installation by light artist Klaus H. R. Gendrung was rendered ineffective by the dry and windy weather: The mist above the river surface which would have enabled the effect did not form. The artist and his team hope for more favorable weather conditions, so that the symbolic red carpet can be unrolled for the guests of the Bambi award ceremony after all.
