Düsseldorf, Martin Luther Square

Not far from King's Avenue are Martin Luther square and Johannes Church. The foundation for the Protestant church was laid in 1875. It was built in a mixture of gothic, renaissance and classicist style. On the opposite side of the square is the justice department of North-Rhine Westphalia. The monument in-between depicts Emperor Wilhelm I. It was unveiled in 1896. After being moved several times, the Emperor-Wilhelm monument has been in Martin Luther square since 1988. On the side of the lawn, there is another monument, which depicts imperial chancellor Otto von Bismarck. This statue was unveiled in 1899 and has been moved to its current location later on.
