In September 2007, the shopping mall "Düsseldorf Arcaden" opened on the site of the former freight depot in Bilk. Right next to the train station Düsseldorf-Bilk, about 120 shops are arranged on three floors. The spectrum includes grocers, clothing stores, a large electronics retailer, phone companies, a pharmacy, restaurants and a variety of service providers. Resting areas with benches and sofas are available throughout the center. Apart from the shopping mall, the building complex includes a new public swimming pool, a community center, a branch of the city library and an 850-space parking garage.
